THE LAST IMAGE
cinematic rehearsals on the virtual topos
The Last Image addresses the performative potential of contemporary image-making with the help of the tools of virtual production. Both physical and virtual cameras, trackers and chromakey, projections and real-time compositing are the driving elements of the piece, whereas usual applications of VR are overtaken and expanded by linking a physical walkable stage-landscape with digital scenographies in an interactive Game-Engine setup.
The developed infrastructure allows the audience to participate in an immersive multimedia theater experience without any VR headsets. Initiated by dband collective, this artistic research deals with the question of the (im)possibility of passive reception in the context of innovative technologies for generating digital cinema. This project is building upon a literary source and thereby rewrites the story of a character who, in her role as a private detective, chases the personified idea of an ominous capitalist in an utopian future world.
